Narrative
PROVIDENCE, RI – Two Rhode Island state troopers went to the hospital Sunday after an alleged drunk driver struck their cruisers along the highway in Providence.
The incident occurred around 1:14 a.m. on the westbound side of Route 6, as the troopers were waiting along the side of the road for RIDOT to finish clearing a prior collision.
The investigation indicates that the driver of a pickup truck sideswiped one of the cruisers and struck the rear passenger side of the other.
Medics transported both troopers as well as the driver of the pickup truck to a local hospital for non-critical injuries.
The driver of the pickup truck, identified as 40-year-old Joseph Giudici, faces multiple charges, including DUI, driving to endanger, and reckless driving.
The investigation is ongoing.
