CRANSTON, RI – A collision involving a van carrying oxygen cylinders left a Massachusetts man dead on Monday night.

Police say two vans collided in the 2100 block of Scituate Avenue near Seven Mile Road at about 8:49 p.m.

The collision involved a van carrying approximately 44 oxygen cylinders, three of which were leaking after the crash, posing a potential explosion risk, according to the Cranston police.

The crash necessitated a complex extrication process to free the two occupants trapped inside the healthcare van due to the extensive damage caused by the collision.

Garrison Gonzalez, the driver of the medical supply van, was pronounced dead at Rhode Island Hospital. The passenger in the van and the driver of the other vehicle sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the collision is under investigation. Our team will update this blog as any additional details come to light.
