Single-vehicle crash kills 1 in Providence Co.

SMITHFIELD, RI – A 55-year-old woman died Sunday afternoon after her car crashed along a roadway in Smithfield, reports WPRI 12.

Police say the incident happened around 3 p.m. near the intersection of Douglas Pike, or RI-7, and Cavalry Drive.

The preliminary investigation suggests that for unknown reasons, the victim ran off of Douglas Pike and crashed into stone wall and garage structure. The force of the collision ejected the unrestrained driver, and she died at the scene.

Authorities identified the victim as Kathleen Morrissey.

The incident remains under investigation.
