WARWICK, RI – A single-vehicle crash involving a semi blocked the ramp from T.F. Greene Airport Connector Road to I-95 South for several hours on Monday, reports WPRI 12 News.
Police say an 18-wheeler carrying 43,000 pounds of solar panels fell on its side and collided with a guardrail. The incident happened before 9:05 a.m. and caused one of the truck’s fuel tanks to break open and the driver to become entrapped in the vehicle.
Response crews worked to free the driver from the truck, but the ramp to I-95 remained closed until early Tuesday morning.
It is unclear at this time if the driver of the tractor-trailer sustained injuries in the crash. Authorities also have not commented on what caused the truck to topple over.
The incident remains under investigation.
