TIVERTON, RI – A 24-year-old driver is in critical condition after crashing his sports car along a roadway in Tiverton on Friday night, reports the Fall River Reporter.
Police say the incident happened around 9:50 p.m. near the intersection of Crandall Road and Blueberry Lane.
Witnesses told police that the driver of a 2006 Acura RX lost control of his vehicle while speeding north on Crandall Road. The vehicle left the roadway and collided with a telephone pole and then a tree before coming to a stop in the front yard at 506 Crandall Road.
Law enforcement identified the driver as Austin John Medeiros of Tiverton. Medics transported him with serious injuries to Rhode Island Hospital Trauma ICU.
Authorities suspect that both speed and impairment were primary factors in the collision. A full investigation is underway.
